Mixed Breed (Medium) | Female | 60lbs | 54 weeks | Brown/White |
ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: Kera weighs about 60 pounds.
ESTIMATED AGE: 4 years, 6 months
KNOWN WITH DOGS: Kera enjoys meeting other dogs and is usually friendly with them if they
don’t come on too strongly. She’s happy to engage in on-the-leash play if she has a willing
partner.
KNOWN WITH CATS: Kera has met one cat since being in her foster home. Kera was
persistent in wanting to get closer to the cat than the cat was willing to tolerate, but the cat stood her ground and Kera respected that. Kera would chase any cat that ran from her.
KNOWN WITH KIDS: Kera has met a few children on her walks and is happy to let them pet her. She has made great progress in learning not to jump on people although she may need occasional correction/redirection with young children.
KNOWN COMMANDS: She knows sit, stay, paw and is close to mastering ‘leave it’. Squirrels and rabbits are still very tempting for her.
KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Kera loves her crate and will hang there
during the day where she can monitor what’s going on in the kitchen. She is housebroken and has an amazing bladder; she’s never had an accident in the house. She is given run of the house. She has never chewed on anything other than her toys and she learned quickly which furniture she’s allowed to get on.
KNOWN LIKES: Kera loves her walks and her stuffed toys. She loves mealtimes and treats but is good about not asking for human food. She enjoys meeting other people and dogs and is fascinated by squirrels, rabbits and foxes. She’s very intelligent and appears to enjoy learning new commands, especially when she’s rewarded with kibble treats.
KNOWN DISLIKES: None observed
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Kera is the best walking companion her foster has ever had. She loves her walks and adjusts her pace to her human’s, going as fast or as slowly as they wish. Inside the house, Kera is quiet and calm although she loves an occasional toss and fetch game. She loves all the intriguing scents she picks up while walking and enjoys meeting most other dogs.
She jumped a 3’ fence to accompany her foster who was shoveling snow, but she’s made no attempt to jump a 4’ fence, even though she was keenly interested in a squirrel on the other side. When she’s tethered outside with her foster nearby, she’s very quiet and enjoys sunbathing. She is selective with other dogs and would be happiest in a family where she would be the only dog. She’s interested in rabbits, squirrels and foxes but can generally be distracted by kibble treats. She’s very affectionate and allows her humans to take her toys from her, but
she did object when a visiting dog picked up one of her stuffed animals. She likes to be near her people but is fine being left alone for a few hours at a time. She rides quietly in the car. She has been very calm in her foster’s busy neighborhood.
